A.E. Hanson, developer of Rolling Hills Estates and Palos Verdes Estates, designed and developed Hidden Hills in the 1950s. To this day, all estates and mansions in Hidden Hills must meet the exacting standards of the Hidden Hills Community Association’s Architectural Committee.

Despite the city's high profile, it retains the feel of a tranquil and peaceful refuge. By design, there are no streetlights or sidewalks here. However, residents can get around on horseback as several bridle trails crisscross the community.

Hidden Hills offers a wide range of amenities, including a swimming pool, tennis courts, a movie theater, and three equestrian arenas. The community center also hosts many of the city's annual events.

Hidden Hills residents love spending time outdoors. Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve lies just to the north of Hidden Hills and offers the chance to commune with nature in a gorgeous setting. When it comes to shopping, dining, and entertainment, residents are spoiled for choice in nearby Calabasas. There's a popular farmers market here on Saturdays, as well as the world-class Commons at Calabasas shopping and entertainment complex.
